the great granny blog hop: carousel cushion

I love playing with crochet. Creating knit-look pieces, learning new, complicated stitches, designing challenging garments: these things are so fun for me! There is also something so refreshing about going back to something as classically crochet as a granny square. I’m so excited to be joining a group of crochet masters in sharing our individual crochet granny creations with you, all built on fantastic Lion Brand yarns…with an INCREDIBLE giveaway!

The variations for the humble granny square are a little mind-boggling. Putting boundaries on a design project will always push you into new territory. In the end, I really wanted to keep it simple, classic, and versatile. The Carousel Cushion is just that!

Break yarn weave in ends.

Repeat four times in each of your three colors for a total of 12 triangles.

ASSEMBLY

Using one of the colors of the pieces you are joining, slip stitch six of the pieces together. I suggest slip stitching three together at a time, then slip stitching the two halves together for a strong and neat seam. I arranged the colors in a pattern, but random would be really cute, too! Repeat for the second six pieces. Weave in all, those, super, fun, ends!

Lay the two panels so the seams are on the outside (wrong side facing). I matched up the colors on the panels so that the color wrapped around the edge of the cushion. Slip stitch around the edge working through both panels to join them until one triangle segment is left unstitched. Flip the cover right side out and insert the cushion. Break the working yarn leaving a twelve-inch tail. Thread your tapestry needle with this tail and straight stitch the opening. Weave in the final end securely.
